God's Grace Through a Difficult Pregnancy
When I found out I was pregnant and the baby was in my hip and my placenta was low-lying, I was devastated. The devil attacked my son twice while he was in my tummy, but he was defeated. I felt pain throughout my pregnancy; I couldn’t sleep in peace. Whether I stood, sat, or walked, the pain was constant. When I visited the clinic, I found out I wasn’t alone; other mothers were going through the same ordeal. But God is always fighting our battles, even when we don’t see it.
My son was so active in the belly, but the pain was unbearable. I was scared I wouldn’t make it through labor. So every day, I would pray. That’s how I know for sure God is always on time. I prayed and asked God to let me have this child when my husband was at home so he could take me to the hospital. Indeed, my husband was the one who brought me to the hospital.
However, I started feeling pain at church. I didn’t know it was labor pain because I was induced with my first child. Someone at church told me it was happening and it was time to go to the hospital. On the way, the pain got worse. By the time I arrived, the nurse tested me, and I was already 4 cm dilated. I walked, shook, and shivered. When I got checked again, I was 6 cm dilated. The pain then got hotter. I couldn’t bear it anymore. I cried until there were no more tears. My body was numb and dry. I cried to God to send a doctor because the pain was indescribable. He sent Dr. Campbell.
Dr. Campbell started trying to distract me from the pain, and somehow it was working. My water burst and soaked the entire room. He then said, “Go to the labor room now and lay on your back.” But I was in so much pain, it was hard to do. He got upset and left, saying, “Make sure you’re on your back by the time I’m back.” Within that time frame, when he went away, the pain got to a point where I felt like I was going to die. But I managed to lay on my back. The baby was making his way to come. I cried out to the doctor. The nurse was hesitant but came hurriedly. The doctor came after. The baby came after three pushes. I didn’t get any cuts or bruises because I drank okra water throughout my pregnancy.
Pregnancy is not easy; it’s a life-and-death situation. But once God is in the vessel, we shall smile at the storm.
