Faith in the Midst of Struggle: A Lesson from Matthew 21
I remembered when I first started nursing school and struggled to study. God was there every step of the way. He provided my school fees when I thought there was no way out. I had applied to study before but didn’t get through, and after failing once, I was afraid to try again.
The night before my exams, I woke up at 3 AM to study but couldn’t retain anything. This had never happened to me before, and I started to cry uncontrollably. I didn’t want to fail again. While everyone else was sound asleep, I suddenly heard my then 3-year-old son shout out “Matthew 21” twice. My husband, startled, jumped out of his sleep and shook our son, asking him what he had said. Still sound asleep, he repeated it again: “Matthew 21.”
I opened my Bible and read Matthew 21. When I reached verses 21-22, I felt a profound sense of peace. The verses read, “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”
It was then that I realized I had been going through spiritual warfare but was too blind to see it. From that night on, Matthew 21:21-22 remained etched in my mind, a constant reminder that God used my son, who was fast asleep, to show me that whatever I asked for in prayer, if I believed, I would receive.
